An Inspiring Session with Martin Čuba
As part of the course from minor specialization Managing the Growth of New Business, we welcomed entrepreneur Martin Čuba, founder of uLékaře.cz. Students had the opportunity to gain insights into the decision‑making and practical experience of a leader behind one of the most successful Czech initiatives in the digitalization of healthcare.
The lecture offered an open and highly practical perspective on three key dimensions of entrepreneurship — strategy, education, and sales. The strong impression it made is reflected in the spontaneous reactions of our students. One of them, Dominik Belza, captured his thoughts on LinkedIn and summarized several of the main takeaways:
Pragmatic Market Selection
Martin presented his approach to identifying opportunities: not focusing solely on trends, but on real societal needs. In the case of uLékaře.cz, this was driven by demographic changes and an aging population — a practical reminder of how important it is to recognize opportunities early, before they become obvious.
Connecting Theory with Practice
Students appreciated his view that university provides a “menu” of frameworks and tools that enable us to find solutions more efficiently once we encounter real‑world challenges. According to Martin, what matters most is the willingness to learn new things at the moment we truly need them — a kind of entrepreneurial yes‑man mindset.
An Elegant and Natural Approach to Sales
Sales do not have to be part of “hustle culture.” Martin demonstrated that selling can be authentic, value‑based, and rooted in genuine interest in people. Students highlighted several practical tips they can apply directly:
- I bring value. When I sell something I believe in, I am not being pushy.
- The rule of expectations. Promise Thursday and deliver on Wednesday.
- The power of questions. Once we stop asking, we stop growing.
- Relationships as a plant. They must be nurtured continuously, not only when we are “selling.”
The session with Martin Čuba enriched both the course and the personal development of our students. We are grateful for the inspiration and look forward to welcoming more guests who help us bridge academia with practice.
